Twenty newly appointed Magistrates in Anambra State were yesterday provided brand new Ford Focus cars by the Chief Judge of the state, Justice Peter Umeadi.
The newly appointed deputy chief registrar and a retired director in the state judiciary also benefitted from the largesse.
Umeadi said the cars would enable the magistrates discharge their duties effectively. The magistrates have already been posted to the magistrate courts in the 21 local government areas of the state.
The purchase of the cars was in line with the judicial autonomy which the Anambra State judiciary has started enjoying.
Chief Registrar of the State High Court, Mrs. Doris Ezeani described the occasion as a milestone in the history of the judiciary in Anambra State, adding that it was the first time the judiciary was taking absolute charge of its own affairs following the financial autonomy recently granted to it by Governor Willie Obiano.
While pledging the support of the judiciary to the state governor, Ezeani said the judiciary staff would continue to do its best in the dispensation of justice in the state.
She also thanked the chief judge for his overwhelming interest in staff welfare and in the transformation of the judiciary of Anambra State.
