BENIN CITY- A police source in Benin has informed www.johnmayaki.com that Benin bomb blast that created tension within the metropolis was not the activities of the Islamic sect – Boko Haram.
When www.johnmayaki.com visited the scene, the policeman at the scene noted that, “Information got to us that this house where the bomb was detonated was being used as a hide out by kidnappers some months ago. This prompted a raid on the property by the combined unit of soldiers and the police where some suspects were arrested.
“However, another person recently hired the building and just this afternoon, decided to burn some papers in the compound. He set the papers on fire and went about doing other chores. But immediately he left the spot, the bomb exploded. From our preliminary investigations, the man never knew that the kidnappers left some bombs in the house”.
The blast which caused tension in Benin City, Tuesday, left five houses destroyed during the incident.
The incident which occurred at about 3pm caused pandemonium as residents of Zomi Zomi street, in Upper Sakpoba Road, ran for safety. News immediately went round the metropolis that, the dreaded Boko Haram sect may have finally extend their reign of terror to the state.
As at the time of filling this report, Bomb Disposal experts from the Edo state police command have cordoned off the building and trying to ascertain if there are more explosives in the building.
It was gathered that a man who resides in the building, named Emeka, was taken away by the police.
