Tension has started to build in the APC, as two groups have been fashioned out. The pro tinubu and anti tinubu group have been formed.
It just about 12 days to the inauguration of the APC administration but some South-West party members and ex-governors who are against the political ideology of the APC National leader, Asiwaju Ahmed Tinubu are determined on having their way before the inauguration of the president elect, Muhammadu Buhari. Punch reports that over the weekend some of these individuals tried to reduce the powers of the Tinubu over the incoming government.
It is widely perceived that the influence of the former governor of Lagos state had helped the president-elect in garnering the huge amount of votes he got in South West, beating the Peoples Democratic Party’s candidate, President Jonathan, hands down. However, it has been made known by sources within the party how the relationship between Buhari and Tinubu might have become strained in recent times as some forces within the party are working tiredlessly on tarnishing the image of the party national leader before Buhari.
Some of these power brokers have urged the president-elect to call the national leader to a meeting where he would reevaluate Tinubu’s authority over him. To confirm the ongoing party saga, the Oba of Lagos, Akiolu Rilwan hinted at a public function, the struggles of the national leader by saying that prayers need to be made for him.
“All Lagos residents should pray that the labour of Tinubu should not be in vain. A lot of things have been happening now. Some people have been telling Buhari all sorts of things. Awujale (Paramount Ruler of Ijebuland) and I have decided to meet Buhari because Lagos and South West states must benefit from the General Buhari administration,” the oba said.
Double edged sword: a source close to the national leader made it known how these same set of people who are now antagonizing Tinubu were the ones who were against Buhari’s candidature for the party during primaries.
‘‘Even before Buhari emerged as the party’s presidential candidate, some people in the party, particularly the governors and some ex-governors, wanted another candidate as chairman. They were totally opposed to Odigie-Oyegun who was Tinubu’s choice. They believed that if they succeeded in getting their man as the chairman, they would have more control of the party, but they failed.”
“It is not a secret: initially, the same group of people in the APC were totally opposed to Asiwaju’s choice of Buhari. They wanted either former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar or Governor Rabiu Kwankwaso of Kano State. When you look at it critically, their choice of these candidates then was not based on any fundamental reason but just to oppose Tinubu and gain more ground in the party. It is funny that some of them who now move around with Buhari were totally against his candidature as APC’s flag bearer”, the source said.
All these and many more are more or less insinuations that the All Progressives Congress (APC) might experience a difficult internal crises just few days to the inauguration of the president-elect.
not long ago, a top member of the party and also the Rivers state Governor, Rotimi Amaechi, revealed that he knelt and begged the national leader of the All Progressive Congress (APC) Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, on the need to settle their disagreement they had during the elections.
