Political economist and public affair analyst, Professor Pat Utomi, has said President Muhammadu Buhari has the liberty to appoint whomever he desires to work with as long as those chosen have the capacity to deliver.
It will be recalled that some Nigerians especially those from the South- Eastern part of the country had expressed concern over the appointments made so far by Buhari.
They said the appointments were lopsided and not in the best interest of the country and a calculated attempt by the president to punish the region for giving him the least votes in the March 28 presidential elections.
Speaking in a chat with Daily Independent on Tuesday , Utomi who described the criticism as ‘small and petty’, said the president can make all his appointments from one village as long as those appointed can get the job done.
“Let’s get serious. Let‘s get to move this country forward and away from all this small, petty issues. To me it is not an important issue and I don’t want to deal with it. The President can appoint everybody from one village. As long as the people can get the job done, let them get it done. That is what Nigerians wanted and that is what they voted for”.
The former presidential candidate of the Social Democratic Mega Party, also advised the president not to be sentimental in choosing his cabinet members but rather look out for individuals with the right leadership pedigree and professionalism.
