Children’s Day: Edo govt emphasizes secured future for children

BENIN CITY- Edo State Government said its resolve to impact the welfare of every child in the state is unwaivering towards ensuring a secured future.
Edo State Governor, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole gave the assurance yesterday in Benin City in a message to mark this year’s Children’s National Day celebration.
Secretary to Edo State Government, Prof. Julius Ihonvbere, who delivered the governor’s message said the state government is conscious of the role of children in the present and future, hence the massive investment in Education and the implementation of other policies  geared towards their overall wellbeing. The governor however expressed concerned over the level of  abuse most children are being subjected to in some parts of the country and solicited a holistic approach by stakeholders  to check the trend.
A number of schools and other groups participated in the match past in the main bowl of the Samuel Ogbemudia stadium as part of the activities to mark this year Children’s National Day celebration while the SSG stood to take salute during the match past.
Wife of the state Deputy Governor, Mrs Endurance Odubu urged the children  to shun all forms of violence to guaranteed a brighter future for them.
State Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development, Mrs. Blessing Maigida appealed to parents and guardians to remain committed to the proper upbringing of their children and wards, adding that most ills in the society are rooted in the family.
Some children spoke on their expectations from the government and equally expressed gratitude for the free transportation they enjoy through the Comrade Buses.
Winners in the match past and other activities to mark the event were presented with trophies and gift items.
