Edo 2016: Beware robbers turned pastors may contest guber polls, Oshiomhole
Danger seems lurking at the corner over 2016 governorship election in Edo State, Governor Adams Oshiomhole has warned.
Governor Oshiomhole feared saying, “politics is coming and armed robbers will come as born-again Pastors”, ostensibly to contest the governorship election but the governor expressed confidence saying, “Edo State can proudly be described as a One Man, One Vote State”.
Besides, traditional rulers from the three Senatorial Districts lamented the rot the PDP government bequeathed to the present government asking the Governor to open the books, probe and jail whoever was found wanting.
However, the Governor who made the disclosure at the 7th year anniversary event at Imaguero College Hall said we started building Edo state on ground zero zero zero because the Accountant General told him “when I assumed office that the state had no dime for my searing-in ceremony.”
The Governor said he came into office equipped with the tools of mobilization and meet three political families who determined who becomes a councilor in all the wards, a member of the state House of Assembly, National Assembly and who becomes the Governor.
“Before now, all the councilors were PDP”, the Comrade observed. According to him, no opposition was in the House of Assembly except one because the All Nigeria Peoples Party (ANPP) was ruthlessly rigged out.
“The godfather arrogantly dismissed me as somebody that would be thought a bitter lesson. They had said there was no vacancy in Osadebey Avenue and in my campaign message in 2007, I promised to put them out of business and today, they have been banished.
“Today, the first task of re-ordering our political structure have been completed. Those who boasted they will govern for 60 years have been wiped out in 16 years. If we had not overcome these forces, we wouldn’t have come this far.
“During the PDP government in this state, they retrenched 7000 workers because they wanted to down-size. Pension increased from over N100 million to over N400 million monthly. They built industries with the intention to use these outfit to siphon government funds and never to function.
“It is not in my place to set up industries because the responsibility of government is to attract investors through public private partnership by providing the incentives, create the environment and infrastructure for industries.
“I am happy the Igbinedions are angry with me because I didn’t meant to appease. I don’t know any country or state where a man, who is not a King would collect royalties. A Benin palace Chief called Mr. Exemption collects royalties but this is the end of exemption. The only exemption we know is the Oba of Benin Kingdom”, Oshiomhole said.
