A Chieftain of the All Progressive Congress (APC), Edo State Chapter, Mr. Roland Osarenkoe yesterday called on those he termed ‘prisoners of rumours’ to exercise restraints by waiting for the party guidelines for the conduct of the 2016 governorship primary election rather than disparage the State Governor, Adams Oshiomhole and Alhaji Aliko Dangote for allegedly endorsing Mr. Godwin Obaseki.
In a statement in Benin City, Osarenkoe chided a governorship aspirant, Mr. Casley Omon-Irabor for allegedly calling for war and being disrespectful to the office of the Governor and one Iyobosa Eweka who spoke from Lagos under the guise of Edo in Diaspora for suggesting they could govern Edo from the Diaspora.
According to him, “Alhaji Aliko Dangote is not a politician and no record of his activities in politics. He is a businessman whom I think should be allowed to concentrate on his business since he cannot vote in Edo state and certainly has no right to do so. I see no reason why we should drag him to Edo state murky political water.
“The guidelines for the primaries is yet to be known, why are we complaining and behaving like bad losers? There is going to be a game but the rules of the game is not yet known, you are already complaining. I think that simply tells us the type of persons these complainants are.
“A serious minded contestant will go to the field and contest and have no business with whomsoever Dangote is allegedly supporting especially when such support, he cannot actualize at the field. We are not being fair to him. We should save him all these embarrassments and distractions.
“I don’t think those who sat in a hotel room to allegedly address a press conference know that Edo state cannot be govern from the Diaspora as some of our indigenes want to suggest. If they are tired and have nothing to do in their present places of sojourn, they are advised to return home and they will be accommodate in the state politics rather than exposing and betraying their shallow knowledge of party politics.
“Godwin Obaseki or no Godwin Obaseki, Osarodion Ogie or no Osarodion Ogie, there must be party primaries and the people will determine who govern them. There is no threatening of fire and brimstone or war. To become a governor is not by appointment but by election, this is the norm all over the world democracies and that hasn’t changed. Why are we behaving and suggesting as if Governor Oshiomhole wants to appoint a Governor to succeed him?
“Why should anyone dissipate energies in what Oshiomhole and Dangote cannot achieve since they are not going to invent a new rule to enable them appoint and install a governor for Edo state. I want to advise Mr. Casley Omo-Irabor to withdraw that statement where he threatened war as that alone could affect his chances in the race.
“If this point is true, let’s go to the field and test our popularity because as it seems today, those crying foul where there is none and before the start of the game cannot win a mock primaries in their wards or at best, their local governments”, he said
