INTERNALLY Displaced Persons (IDPs) taking refuge at the International Christian Centre Home For the Needy, at Uhogua, Ovia North East council of Edo State, on Saturday, resisted attempt by security operatives to evacuate them from the camp.

It was gathered that buses hired from transport companies in Benin City, Edo State, on Saturday, were deployed for the evacuation by armed security personnel, including police, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) and Department of State Security (DSS), but the IDPs, especially the women and the children, declined to be evacuated from the camp.

The security personnel, who stormed the camp housing about 1,400 people, had reportedly stated that they were acting on orders from above to move the IDPs from the camp to another location.

They were said to have told the security personnel that any assistance government had for them should be brought to the camp.

It will be recalled that Governor Adams Oshiomhole had, about 10 days ago, directed security operatives in the state to investigate claims that majority of the children and women at the camp were not IDPs.

When contacted last night, the head of the camp, Pastor Folorunso Solomon, said he was in the state Government House to hold talks with government officials after an invitation
