The World Bank yesterday said Edo is Nigeria’s best state in setting high standard for transparency, openness, candour and value for money.

It hailed Governor Adams Oshiomhole for paying over N1 billion counterpart fund to enable the state enjoy the global bank’s projects and other incentives.

World Bank’s Task Team Leader, Dr Amos Abu, spoke in Benin, the state capital, when he and other team members visited the governor.

Dr. Abu, who said the team was in the state to inspect erosion control projects in Auchi, Queen Ede and Ekenwa, added that the progress of work on the sites was outstanding.

Abu said the bank had not received any complaint of political interference from the state.

Such a development, he stressed, was unique.

He said: “Our core engineers are in Auchi to look at the work that is going on and provide guidance on how it can be quickly completed. We are also very happy with the new site that has been put forward for the bank’s funding. A close look at this site shows that it meets the site selection criteria. So, we are very happy to consider and take them on board…”

Oshiomhole expressed joy about the global bank’s commendations.

He said: “Even after I leave office as governor, my successor will maintain this relationship and this will bring more development for our people.”
