Following instances of alleged insubordination and disloyalty to party constitution, the Social Democratic Party, SDP, in Edo State, has suspended one Mr. Cornelius Oreruan and recommended for ratification by National Executive Council of the party, the expulsion of Abubakar Momoh and Alhaji Usman Shagadi.
In a statement at the State Executive Committee, SEC, meeting attended by members of the state executive and the local government chairmen of the party in Benin City, the state Party Chairman, Prince Frank Ukonga said: “A motion was raised and passed for the dissolution of the interim council and senatorial district structures set up by the party in Edo North for the purpose of conducting the 2015 general election, which becomes hereby dissolved.
“An ad-hoc committee headed by the state Secretary of SDP has been empowered to reorganise the restive Edo North district of the party, appoint LG caretaker chairmen and committee, and conduct fresh LG congress to stem the spate of decampment of members to other political parties due to arrogant and inept leadership of the party leaders of Edo North district, before final absorption into the main stream state chapter.
“By the powers conferred on the SEC of Article 20.2 and 3 and 4, the party has decided to suspend Oreruan, who contended the Owan East House of Assembly seat on SDP platform for anti-party activities of disloyalty, sabotage and insubordination.
“It was brought to the notice of the SEC that some persons go about impersonating as leaders of the party in Edo State and that they are the Chairman BOT of the party. The is to officially notify the general public that those claims are spurious, lies and gross anti-party activities.
“For clarification on the matter, the Chairman BOT of the party is Chief Olu Falae, and the leader of the party in Edo State is Prince Frank Ukonga who was the duly elected party Chairman of SDP Edo State.
“The offence of impersonating, disrespect of party leadership and immoral conducts contravene Article 20 section 2 and 3 of the Party Constitution and by the powers vested on the SDP Constitution, the culprits have been advised to desist, henceforth, while appropriate disciplinary actions has been forwarded to the National Executive Committee for ratification.
“In the 2015 general election, the leaders of Edo North district of SDP obtained nomination quota of 12 elective positions of one Senate, three House of Representatives tickets, eight House of Assembly tickets of the party with a promise to pay the nomination fees amounting to N15million, before or during the election but till today they have reneged to pay up.
“This is a very serious anti-party activity as it contravene the party constitution article 20 section 2 and e of failure to fulfil financial obligations and other obligations of members which is classified as moral turpitude and by the powers vested on the SEC appropriate disciplinary actions have been recommended for ratification by the National Executive Council of the SDP party. And they are advised to pay up or face suspension and expulsion,” the chairman said.
