Edo state government says it has commenced a process to synergise with the federal road safety corps, FRSC, in road safety management in the state.
The state governor, comrade Adams Oshiomhole gave the assurance when he played host to top officials of FRSC, led by the Zonal commanding officer in charge of zone 5, Mr. Shehu Zaki in Government House, Benin city.
Receiving the Zonal Commanding Officer and his team, Governor Adams Oshiomhole represented by the Deputy Governor, Dr. Pius Odubu said taking into cognisance the state’s location as a gateway to other state, government was working to partner the FRSC for free flow of traffic and prevent road crashes within the state.
Governor Oshiomhole while commending the corps for being diligent in the discharge of their constitutional duty promised that the state government would do all within its power in providing enabling working environment for the corps.
Earlier the Zonal Commanding Officer, Mr. Shehu Zaki while listing achievements of the Corps, said road crashes has been reduced from 25, 381 in 1998 to 9,000 in 2015.
According to Mr. Zaki the Corps has perfected plans to further reduce road crashes and appealed to the State Governor for assistant in the areas of obstruction clearing, ambulances, rescue consumables and partnering with the state government to train the state’s traffic officers.
In the team were the Sector Commander, FRSC, Edo Sector Command, Mr. Oluwasusi Familon, State Coordinator Special Marshals, Mr. Friday Ekhitor, unit commanders and other top FRSC officials.
