The Governor of Edo State, Mr Godwin Obaseki, on Wednesday, disclosed that his administration would expedite the constitution of a Hajj Committee and a Muslim Welfare Board to facilitate the creation of a structure for Muslims intending to travel for the Hajj, this year.

He made this revelation as he broke the Ramadan fast with eminent Edo Imams at the Government House in Benin City where he also declared that his government would build a strong and united state, and engender safety and security to contribute to the economic development of the state.

Communing with the religious leaders, he said: “This is a night of fellowship with our Muslim brothers, as we join them in prayers during this period. I thank you for taking time out to come and break your fast here in Government House. We are happy to receive you and we will continue to join you in prayers. Know that Allah in his infinite mercies will speedily answer our prayers”.

Meanwhile, he called on them to pray for the Nigerian President, Muhammadu Buhari, as well as for the sustenance of the nation’s peace, and above all, for the continued peace of the state while the Chief Imam of Benin Central Mosque, Alhaji Abdulfatai Enabulele, thanked the governor for the warm reception accorded the delegation.

The religious leader said: “We want to thank you for the food items you distributed to our Muslim brothers and sisters during this period across the state. We appeal to you to approve a space for us here in Government House where we can observe our five times daily prayers.”

Enabulele also expressed satisfaction with the Obaseki-led administration’s performance, saying a prayer for the sustenance of development under his government and for Edo State at large.
