*It’s great celebrating them when they are alive – Guests RADIATING influence, affluence and royalty they commenced arriving the Eko Hotel and Suites venue of the Vanguard Personality Award at 5pm, on Friday. Their calculated and stylish steps on the red carpet leading to the Expo Hall where the event was scheduled to hold, elegantly reflected their exceptional personalities.
And that was interestingly made striking by their florid attires which provided exciting blend of African fashion and Western outfits. The fashion statements by these esteemed guests, complemented the already colorful environment which had conspicuous presence of Vanguard’s official red and white colours. Musical performances by Igbo cultural dance troupe, Ugonabo Umuoji serenaded the atmosphere with rendition of traditional tunes to the delight of many. It was amid this carnival-like atmosphere that former Vice President Chief Alex Ekwueme, Governor Adams Oshiomhole, Governor Ibrahim Dankwambo, Chief Nike Akande and other attendees took graceful steps to the venue.
Their remarks indicated how impressed they were with the award, as they called for the sustenance of the yearly event.
Oshiomhole is worthy of the award—Afegbua
Edo State Commissioner for Information, Edo State, Mr. Kassim Afegbua said: ”I came here earlier on and I was quite fascinated by the walk way and I said this is only peculiar with Vanguard because I have attended events in this particular hall before and I have never seen it beautifully packaged like this.
“It is because Vanguard is a solid platform, anybody being given award should be applauded and this award is not the one you procure with money. It is an award that is actually merited. Because I have seen the summary of why people were given award and it is quite fascinating and I want to commend Vanguard for this. “Governor Oshiomhole is more than worthy of this award. Comrade Oshiomhole has embarrassed book makers and doubting Thomas’s with the kind of development he has brought into Edo State. While he humbled those expected so much, he also embarrassed the opponents.”
It’s good to celebrate living legends—Sally Mbanefo, DG, NTDA
It is a very well organised event and it is worth giving honour to people who deserve it. We want to commend Vanguard for such an innovative choice of people. These are people who are living legends and it is important to recognise people who have contributed to the society while they are alive.
I’m grateful to God and Vanguard—Nike Akande
It is a great honour and I am extremely grateful to God, I am grateful to Vanguard
Oshiomhole deserves it—Osarodion Ogie, Commissioner for Works, Edo State
It is something we should encourage all the awardees, we have read their profiles through the papers and they are people well known for their records. vanguard has done well. I am not surprised that Governor Oshiomhole is being awarded because having been part of the administration from the beginning, we know the difference we have made. For him to be recognised by Vanguard, the award is to be taken seriously.
Philip Shuaib, Rep member from Edo State
This award for me is celebrating those who have distinguished themselves in their various endeavours and also those that contributed to the growth of this country. It is okay because for me, when you appreciate what somebody has done, it is a toxic for making him do better. I salute Vanguard for selecting these distinguished Nigerians and it will give them strength to do greater things and others seeing them , will use them as role models.
Oshiomhole deserves it because that is a man that came from ground zero and he has lifted Edo state to the level it is today both in terms of finance and otherwise. Some states cannot pay salaries while others are bankrupt but Edo State is paying salaries and all the works are going on simultaneously. Beyond infrastructural development, he has opened up the political space that the son of nobody can become somebody in Edo State. The award is coming at a time when he is finishing strong. For me, it is coming at the right time.
My father is my champion–Ede Dafinone
It is very clear that for a change, Vanguard took some time to select those who represent Nigerians worthy of the award. My father is my champion.
I’ m happy for Vanguard–Chief Akande
In his remarks, Chief Akande said: ”I am indeed very happy. I am very happy for Sam (Amuka) as well. I have known Sam for over 40 years and we have been very good friends since then and I am happy for him. I am very happy for the Vanguard chairman and management.”
The event should be encouraged–Rep Akinlade
Similarly, a member of the House of Representatives, Mr. Adekunle Akinlade noted, ”I think it is a wonderful concept and I think the beneficiaries are people who deserve the award. . I believe strongly that hard work is something that we will encourage.”
