Hard to Hope, as Oshiomhole, Sheriff Plague Ize-Iyamu
By John Mayaki
Senator Ali Modu Sheriff, the National Chairman of the Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP) is making a pessimist out of Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu – his party’s factional gubernatorial candidate for Edo 2016.
Apart from Comrade Adams Oshiomhole who seems sworn to wear-him-out with the ‘broom’, Ize-Iyamu’s entire life have been known among his friends and family as an endless optimist who always sees the light at the end of the tunnel.
But, his ambition is hard to hope as it stands – achieving his dream to enact the old order of the Lucky Igbinedion’s years of the locust. This difficulty is so thick, so heavy, so ever-present, that he admits that right about now, he’s struggling to see any ray of light – infact, Ize-Iyamu can hardly see the tunnel.
The day before, it was Governor Adams Oshiomhole who symbolically wiped him a bunch of broom – exerting so much force to break – the picture which since gone viral showed the Comrade Governor’s elasticity and springiness.
The day after, the result of that figurative broom-sponge on the ‘ambitious man’ manifested. News soon filtered into town that Sheriff stirs again! I mean a new sheriff is in town – the Ize-Iyamu’s albatross. He soon secured a Court judgment that plagued Ize-Iyamu right in his face and dampened his hope – ambition fastened to the wall.
Admittedly, Ize-Iyamu broke no known law when he consulted his family members and friends to contest the most coveted seat of Edo State Governor but in essence, apart from Oshiomhole shattering his hope, his party ‘criminalized’ his ambition.
I can feel his visible and audible pain, perhaps from the news of the Court when he first heard it – he had thought the Court should for his sake treat the matter with levity but the Court thought otherwise.
This circle of election – especially year 2016 is the most dramatic and would be the easiest election I would ever witness. Am sure, Oshiomhole’s 18 over 18 in 2012 would be a child’s play – considering an Oshiomhole with a broom, doing damage to Ize-Iyamu’s ambition – his hope was brutally maimed and beaten with the broom and finally murdered by Sheriff.
Hard to hope – even if you don’t hold Sheriff accountable, has gotten to be so well-worn, so predictable, that it now seems almost foolhardy to hope for anything else for Ize-Iyamu.
Like Sheriff, Oshiomhole rages on – plagues Ize-Iyamu down to the godfather’s domain in Edo Central – an ambition hard to hope.
