Major-General Charles Airhiavbere (retd) who is one of those aspirants eyeing Governor Adams Oshiomhole’s seat says he will sure pick up the Edo State All Progressive Congress (APC) party ticket come 2016.
The former Peoples Democratic Party, (PDP,) who ran against Governor Oshiohmole in the 2012 governorship election when the sitting Governor sought a second tenure expressed confidence that he would be the choice of his party, in the 2016 governorship election.
The ex General who had since dumped his PDP platform said, “if all the delegates from the 192 Wards in the state were given the opportunity to pick the party’s flag bearer”, he was cock sure of running away with it.
Airhiavbere, who fielded questions from journalists, weekend, in Benin on the occasion of the 7th anniversary of Governor Adams Oshiomhole’s government, also commended the governor for creating a strong political platform which can defeat other political parties in the 2016 governorship election.
He said: “The platform created by Oshiomhole is strong and tenable and one upon which the APC as a party should allow all aspirants to contest to fly the party’s flag in the 2016 governorship election.
“The APC was in opposition before the March 2015 presidential election. Before then, the party had consolidated its hold in Edo State; the governor’s crowd of supporters and the relevance of the party in the state have been deep-rooted even in opposition, before that election. So, I believe that the party has the impetus required to win the 2016 election.”
The APC governorship aspirant said he was confident that if all the APC delegates from the 192 wards in the state were given the opportunity to decide who governs them and to pick the candidate for the governorship election, he would be the aspirant of choice.
