LAGOS—An epic struggle for the ministerial position for Lagos State has broken out among leading stakeholders in the All Progressives Congress, APC in the state.
It is a first time for associates of Asiwaju Bola Tinubu who had until now been limited to sharing the spoils in Lagos and had left the space to the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, who without political offices in Lagos had periodically struggled for the ministerial slot.
Buhari on Governors nominating Ministers
Though President Muhammadu Buhari had been quoted as saying that governors would not nominate ministers for him, a number of leading party men in Lagos State it was learned, are currently being speculated to be in the race.
The contention is irrespective of the position that the immediate past governor of the state, Mr. Babatunde Fashola may play in the federal administration that is yet to take shape. Mr. Fashola, who has not been formally designated in the new administration, was in the president’s delegation that left Abuja yesterday for the G7 summit in Germany.
Those in contention
Among those said to be in contention for the ministerial slot besides Fashola are Senator Ganiyu Solomon, Dr. Leke Pitan, Mrs. Abike Dabiri-Erewa, Senator Olurunnimbe Mamora among other senior party members.
