Properties worth millions of naira were destroyed including a sharia court burnt by hundreds of Muslim youth who protested outside the Sharia Court located in Kano City on Friday morning. According to protesters and eye witness at the scene, they were upset over a blasphemous statement made by Mallam Abdul Nyass, from the Tijjaniyya sect. The irate youths eventually burnt down the sharia court out of anger over the statements made against the Holy Prophet Muhammad (SAW).
The youth, coming from all over Kano State, arrived at the demonstration area holding placards condemning the statement he made about the Holy Prophet Muhammad.
According to SaharaReporters correspondent who saw the protesters heading towards the Mandawari and Dandago areas, where they planned on confronting the Emir of Kano, Lamido Sanusi, to lay their complaints and frustrations.
Among the protesters were old men and Muslim women, many of whom were condemning the Malam Abdul Nyass’s statements and calling for punishment according to Islamic rites.
Malam Abdul Nyass is a known figure in the Tijjaniyya sect and made the controversial statements against prophet Muhammad last week during his usual sermon at Goron Dutse of Kano.
All effort to contact the police spokesman, ASP Musa Magaji Majia proved abortive as his mobile number could not be reached at the time of writing this report.
