A security escort vehicle attached to the Regional Overseer of a new generation church in Edo State yesterday crashed on its way from Lagos claiming the life of a police officer and an unidentified man.

Its was gathered that four persons aboard the security vehicle had escorted the Regional Overseer to Lagos and were on their way back to Benin when it skidded off the road into the forest.

Rescuers say the accident was worsened, when they rushed the remaining fatally injured two to the University of Benin Teaching Hospital where they were told that workers were on strike, a situation that further aggravated the pains of the victims and slimmed the likelihood of their survival.

Besides, a Pastor in charge of Christ Apostolic Church in Egor local government area of Edo State, Rev. Igbinigie Anthony, has told an Egor Chief Magistrate Court how a man who attempted to steal the money realised by the church during its annual thanksgiving was nabbed.

Igbinigie, who spoke during a cross examination at the resumed hearing of the case, said the suspected thief had severally broken into the church on three previous occasion and made away with cash that is up to N52,000.

The pastor explained that he and the church’s youth president, whose name was given as Okoh, decided to sleep in the church because he had a premonition that the thief would return to steal the thanksgiving collections.

He said the suspect, Ehiosun Junior, who was docked, first broke into the church and made away with N40, 000 after which he asked the church to pray to God to forgive him (the thief).

Junior was arraigned on a four-count charge and pleaded not guilty to the charges.
