In celebration of the Easter season, a governorship aspirant of the All Progressive Congress (APC), Godwin Obaseki, has paid medical bills for over 25 patients at the Benin Central Hospital.
The patients who benefitted from the gesture were those who could not offset their medical bills after receiving treatment from the hospital.
Obaseki, who was accompanied by his wife, Betsy, and other APC chieftains, visited the male and female Orthopaedic wards of the hospital.
Medical Director of the hospital, Dr Omorodion Uwadiae, thanked Obaseki, adding that it pains the hospital management to keep the patients because of their inability to pay their medical bills.
The governorship aspirant also paid the bills for the prescribed drugs of some patients who could not afford them.
Explaining why he choose to celebrate Easter at the hospital, Obaseki said he could not stay at home to enjoy when there were people detained at the hospital because of their inability to pay medical bills.
He said, “The spirit of Easter is about giving and celebrating the sacrifices of Christ. Rather than stay at home and enjoy, we should make some sacrifices for those who are less privilege and cannot afford to be with us because of they cannot be discharge from hospital.”
