Obaseki’s victory, a journey forward
Today, despite all the hardship we’ve been through, and despite all the frustrations from opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), we have shown that we can never be more hopeful about our future and we’ve never been more hopeful about Edo State and the progressive government of the ruling party in Nigeria. I ask Edo people to sustain the hope.
Citing the words of President Barack Obama’s 2012 victory speech, “I’m not talking about blind optimism, the kind of hope that just ignores the enormity of the tasks ahead or the roadblocks that stands on our path. I’m also not talking about the wishful idealism that allows us to just sit on the sidelines or shirk from a fight especially the one that allows continuity for consolidation.
I have always believe that hope is that stubborn thing inside us that insists, despite all the evidences to the contrary, that something better awaits us so long as we have the courage to keep the good works of the Comrade Governor, Adams Oshiomhole and to keep working for Edo people through a fresh mandate given to Mr. Godwin Obaseki and Comrade Philip Shaibu.
Edo people, I believe we can build on the progress we’ve made and continue to fight for the dividends of democracy as promised by Mr. Godwin Obaseki – the Governor-elect.
I believe we can seize this future together because we are not as divided as the opposition painted during campaigns – the introduction of religious sentiments, ethnic and traditional gushes – we are not as cynical as the PDP pundits preached and made us to believe. We are greater than the sum of our individual ambitions and we remain more than what they think we are.
And together, with the people of Edo State – the traditional institution, religious leaders, patriots, civil society, artisans, market women among others and God’s grace, we will continue our journey forward with Godwin Obaseki – and I know that every Edo son and daughter wants his or her future to be just as bright as promised by the All Progressive Congress (APC) governor-elect.
Today, we voted for action, not politics as usual – we voted and elected Godwin Obaseki and Philip Shaibu to focus on our jobs and not the dictates of some few selfish individuals and I have no doubt that our choice today is the future we hoped for and we would be grateful we did in the coming weeks and months.
To Governor Adams Oshiomhole, the APC, the best campaign team, volunteers and electorates in the history of politics – the best – the best ever. We appreciate all those who participated in this election especially the voters – you made your choice heard and you made a difference.
