Okowa Forwards Two Bills To Assembly

DELTA State Governor, Ifeanyi Okowa, has forwarded two bills to the state House of Assembly for necessary legislative actions.

Okowa had in his inaugural speech minutes after swearing in last Friday announced his intention to within one week forward to the state legislature three executive bills, including the State Capital Development Agency Bill and Technical and Vocational Education Board Bill.

The bills have passed first readings on the floor of the house at its Tuesday plenary, while second readings have been slated for Wednesday, June 3, 2015.

The motions for the first readings of the two bills were moved by the Majority Leader of the House, Hon. Monday Igbuya, and were unanimously adopted.

The governor also promised to give strength to the Delta State Oil Producing Development Commission (DESOPADEC),  law by restructuring the board and management in line with the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) model through an amendment.

Meanwhile, the house adopted a motion brought under matter of urgent public by Igbuya calling on Governor Okowa to relocate illegal occupants in the Sapele Main Market to enable the contractor working on the market project to continue the work.

Igbuya who represents Sapele Constituency in the house said the contractor handling the project for the state government was ready to complete the project but for the hiccups created by the illegal occupants.

Speaking in support of the motion, Sam Obi, Ika North East, Martin Okonta, Ika South and Oboro Preyor, Bomadi, said it was wrong for people to forcefully allocate the shops to themselves even when work on the project were still going on.

They therefore stressed the need for immediate action in order not to further delay the completion of the market project.

The house adopted the recommendations of the report of the ad hoc committee that investigated the allocation of lands in the state in the last four years.
