Chieftains of the Edo State All Progressives Congress (APC) have been urged to rally round Governor Adams Oshiomhole in his effort to leave lasting legacies in the state rather than stay aloof and vilify him while fighting difficult political battles, a Senior Special Assistant on Media, John Mayaki has said.
“For the past seven years, there are some members of this party who have not granted interviews in the newspapers or televisions or a press statement to appreciate, encourage and support the Comrade Governor for either constructing good roads across the state, fighting corruption, stabilizing the state financially or regular payments of monthly salaries but we have seen these characters wanting to reap where they have not sowed.
Mayaki observed that those criticizing the Governor today are those who have benefited from his benevolence but have nothing to put on the table either for the development of the state or the party. Oshiomhole paid this month (December) salaries on the 21th (Monday), but we didn’t see any of these people shouting imposition, and godfatherism, appreciating him for running the state in a most transparent manner with integrity.
Take for instance, Mayaki said, “Oshiomhole’s singular effort to increase the internally generated revenue of the state through the implementation of already existing tax policies which was resisted by some untouchables in the state, we didn’t find our big politicians who are presently queuing up to reap from the party standing up to be counted when they were needed most.
“We all can see what Oshiomhole is doing in terms of road rehabilitation in the metropolis and across the state. We all can see the good work Engineer Mujaidu Dako, Managing Director of Rapid Response Agency s doing on Boundry Road, Federal Road, Aiguobasimi and PZ Road.
“We can see work going on in Ihama Road, and from there to Akhiobare and Central Road but we haven’t seen our people appreciating the Comrade.
“Oshiomhole made enemies for us when we went on hiding but after winning the battle, we emerge from obscurity to dictate how the food should be shared. It certainly can’t work that way. I think we need each other to grow the party to what it ought to be.
“We all saw how the Governor joined others like former Lagos State Governors; Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Raji Fashola, former Rivers State Governor, Rotimi Amaechi among others to campaign for the party to dethrone the Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP) led Federal Government. We saw how he was frustrated by that government and how he has continue to expose the corruption in that government but to our chagrin, those that were hiding in the convenience and comfort of their houses at the time they were supposed to join in this struggle, lost their voices but suddenly found it in the countdown to 2016. It’s quite unfortunate.
“How many of these people lining up now to take over from the Governor holds party meetings at the ward, local government and senatorial levels to unit members, care for them, encourage them and mobilize them? What is their financial contribution to the party and its activities? Today, some of these persons are the same planning to pull down the party, if they don’t get the party’s ticket; I mean the party they refused to build.
“When the roads in the Benin metropolis were in total disrepair during the rainy season, there was wild spread condemnation and criticisms against the government but today, the story has changed, with Rapid Response Agency, Ministry of Works and Contractors working night and day, none of our power grabbers would thumb-up for the Comrade Governor and encourage him but they are quick to warn him of no imposition of candidate for 2016. I sincerely don’t think that that is the best way to go.
“I therefore want to call on all party supporters and aspirants alike, to do the needful. The Comrade Governor whom we all agreed has done well should be encouraged and appreciated publicly but some persons do not want to do so, so as not to attract the wrath of others. You see the hypocrisy and the deceit being exhibited by us? It does not augur well for us as a party in government and one determined to continue to provide leadership for our dear state”.
