Forum of Senior Special Assistants to Edo State Governor, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole, has described as shameful, the protest in red by some Benin women on Tuesday in support of Chief Gabriel Igbinedion, the Esama of Benin Kingdom.

In a statement in Benin yesterday, by Mr. Afuda Theophilus and Mr. John Mayaki, the group said that shameful act was a sacrilege and wondered why mothers who are vessels of honour would act in that disdainful manner that would echo the sentiments of their paymaster.

“The question that would border a sane mind concerning the protest and the women is; what grievances do they (protesters) want to address that would amount to nude protest?

“We have not seen anybody who has been able to tell us the exact word the Comrade Governor used to abuse the Esama of Benin. For women to come to public square half nude is the most bizarre way to denigrate womanhood and motherhood. This is unacceptable and we urge the public to condemn it.

“We call on Edo women in general not to seat down and tolerate this

ugly act under any guise and like we said, we do not see any pain that they want to address that they would take shame upon themselves and the families that they represent.

“It is a sacrilege to the very revered Benin tradition and custom; it’s a taboo to the Benin traditional institution. This is a partisanship script taken too far.

“Assuming without conceding that they protested because of land use charge, which was one of their grouse, the women that we saw in that charade were certainly not directly affected by the land use charge since they do not own houses in the Government Reserved Area or live in commercial areas. The protesters were peasants who cannot and do not live in these areas.

“However, we have seen that they were sponsored by an individual; it is obvious. But, we want to advise our mothers and women to refrain from allowing themselves to be used as tools in the hands of desperate treasure hunters.

“We expect them to concentrate their effort in taking care of their houses and supporting the good efforts of the Comrade Governor”.
