…..over 1,200 dump party for the APC

What seems like a hurricane swept through Epkeri land weekend as over 1, 200 members of the People’s Democratic Party, PDP dumped the party for the ruling All Progressive Congress, APC. Epkeri is the densely populated riverine area made up of 10 communities in Etsako Central Local Government Area of Edo State.

The colourful event which took place at the Udaba community square saw the decampees made up of women, youths and erstwhile PDP leaders tearing the umbrella, the party’s symbol into shred because, according to them, it could no longer provide the desired shelter. They were seen waving the broom, symbol of the APC to the admiration of the leaders present.

Leader of the decampees, Sheirk (Barr) Muktar Ilenobe said he was the last oxygen of the PDP in the local government, adding that now that he has been disconnected, the party has breathed its last. The renowned Islamic educationist cum legal practitioner said he would ensure the disconnection of what he described as “smaller oxygen” sustaining the PDP across the wards in the local government.

Another leader of the decampees and chairman of the community, Chief P.F Abebe said he was coming into the APC with his followers, adding that “now that I have come nobody is left in the PDP. If you hear PDP again in Udaba, you know it’s fake, no more PDP here. My movement today signifies end of PDP here, this is a party without national, state or local government presence, so why should I continue to be there, I have to leave to give meaningful and genuine leadership to my people”.

One of the women decampees, Mrs Felicia Elestso caused emotional stir in the crowd when she declared that she joined the APC out of her own volition without the prompting of anybody as her conscience kept pricking her whenever she walked or travelled on the asphalted road built by the APC government, whenever she sees electricity lights up the community, whenever she drinks the water gushing out of the pipes given them by the Oshiomhole government, saying that she cannot see light and continue to grope in darkness.

The decampees were jointly received by member representing Etsako Central Local Government in the state house of Assembly Hon (Barr) Damian Lawani and the Zone Two leader of the APC, Alhaji Waziri Oshiomha.

According to Lawani, ” no government presence here (Udaba) until the coming of the APC, its the APC government that brought you light, it’s the APC government that brought you road that opened up our community and lights up the area”. We can all see, touch and feel the APC in Epkeri land. So, no one will see light and road and continue to wallow in ignorance. Without begging the issue, APC is the party to belong”. On his part, Sir Waziri assured all the decampees that the APC is a party of justice, adding that none of them will be discriminated against because in the eyes of the party, nobody is a new member.

He further assured them that they will be accorded equal recognition as those they met in the party. “The APC has a philosophy of equal status, no new member, no old member”, he assured them.

One of the women decampees told the crowd that her group launched their new uniform for the year only for the PDP leaders to storm the venue when they got wind of the programme through their member in the community, Donald Boy-Osikhene, a former commissioner for lands who was sacked by Oshiomhole. The embittered woman said she was tired of the lies and deception of the PDP, hence her decision to leave the party for good.
