Senator Uzamere’s defection speech

The APC leaders, Edo South, led by the Obazelu of Benin, Chief Osaro Idah, held a meeting with me in my house in Benin City on the 31st of July. It was indeed a constructive meeting whose central theme tallied, to a large extent, with my vision for our State.

I have always preached and played politics without bitterness. I am at a stage in my life where the interest of the People is more important than my personal interest.

I am extremely conscious of the fact that we have to bequeath an enduring legacy to our future generation of Edo sons and daughters. It is therefore in this light, I have decided to pitch my tent with politics that identifies with my dream and aspirations for our State.

Politics at the State level, leaves me no option but to work for sustainable development of Edo State. It is my firm belief that a better developed Edo State, will place our State at par with other developed States of the Federation.

In taking this political step, it is pertinent to stress that this is not equal to political opportunism or irascible carpet-crossing. A situation where a political party cannot make up its mind about its leadership at both State and Federal levels, leaves a lot to be desired.

We should play politics for progress not for constant castigation and assassination of character. Can we please see this, my acceptance of APC party card and full membership of the APC, as a calculated move aimed at enhancing the prospects of Edo State.

In all we do, may we have it at the back of our minds that the future belongs to God. May we learn to let go of those things that bring division among us. We ought to live for the progress of our State. I therefore urge and pray that campaigns for the emergence of the our next Governor will be based on issues. The past is for us to learn from, to build a better tomorrow.

May God bless Edo State with purposeful leaders. Leaders that will take Edo to a next higher level of development. It is my prayers that my Party’s candidate wins the election come September. We will work together for our Party’s success.

In God I trust, to lead us aright.
