Benin City – As the 2016 National Measles Exercise ended yesterday, Vaccinators were seen administering the vaccines to pupils of both public and private schools across the Benin metropolis.
At Stella Obasanjo Hospital, over one hundred babies were immunized while over one hundred and fifty babies were recorded at the Central Hospital. A collating officer at Iyekeogba Ward which constitute of 42 villages, Mrs Ayi-Nana Aisuebeogun said so far over 12000 children participated in the exercise.
A Local Immunisation Officer at the Central Hospital, Mrs Nore Osayi expressed satisfaction with the level of awareness on the program and turnout of children even at the last day of the exercise. Mrs Osayi who was also the supervisor of the fieldwork exercise in some schools at Oko-Ogba area, appreciated the cooperation of management and teachers of the schools.
‘’We went out to schools that had not been captured and I can confirm to you that the turnout was extraordinary as people still came out even at the last minute. We are happy that residents are more aware of programmes like this and they key into the opportunity by vaccinating their children’’.
She confirmed to www.johnmayaki.com that collating officers were working on the final data to confirm the exact figures of children captured during the exercise and would be forwarded to the state ministry of health for further action.
